Quran Classes Near Me: Your Local Options, and a Live Teacher Online
Quran classes near you usually come from three places: a masjid or Islamic centre’s weekend school, an evening class or halaqa at the masjid, and a teacher who visits your home. If none of them fits your child’s level or your week, a live Quran teacher online works from home. Ours costs from $34 a month, one to one or in a small group, and the first lesson is free.

Where to learn the Quran near you, compared
| Option | What it is usually like | Suits | Worth checking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekend school at a masjid or Islamic centre | Saturday or Sunday classes for children, often Quran with Islamic studies and some Arabic | Children, and families who want them among other Muslim children | How many children share one teacher, and how often each child reads aloud |
| Evening class or halaqa at the masjid | A weekly class, sometimes a full-time hifz programme for children | Adults, and children ready for memorisation | Whether the class is grouped by level, and whether sisters have a class of their own |
| A teacher who comes to your home | One to one, arranged through the masjid or by word of mouth | Families who want individual attention in person | Availability of a female teacher, and the cost of travel time |
| A live teacher online | One to one or a small group on a video call, at a time you choose | Families with no class nearby at the right level, busy weeks, or a child who needs one-to-one attention | That the teacher is live and the same each week, not a recorded course |
How to find a Quran class near you
- Search your map for “masjid” and “Islamic center”. Look for a weekend school or Quran class on their website, or call the office and ask for which ages and on which days.
- Ask at Friday prayer. The imam or the office usually knows every teacher in the area, including those who teach at home.
- Ask other parents. A post in a local Muslim parents’ group often finds a teacher who is not advertised anywhere.
- For hifz, ask specifically whether the masjid runs a memorisation programme, and how revision is checked.
Five questions to ask any Quran class
- How will my child’s level be placed? A good teacher hears them read first.
- How many minutes will my child read aloud to the teacher each lesson? In a class of twenty it may be two or three.
- Is Tajweed taught from the start, or only once reading is fluent?
- Will it be the same teacher every week, and is a female teacher available?
- How will you tell me what my child can do now that they could not do last month?
When learning online is the better choice
If a local class fits your child, take it; learning in the masjid among other children has real value. Online makes more sense when the nearest class is far away or full, when your child needs to be heard reading every week rather than now and then, when you want a female teacher, or when nobody at home reads Arabic and you need a teacher who explains everything in English.

Cost, online or at the masjid, and free classes nearby
How much do Quran classes cost?
Masjid weekend schools often charge a modest term fee; a teacher who visits your home usually charges more per hour than online. Ours is $9.50 an hour, falling to $7.00 as you book more hours, from $34 a month, and the first lesson is free.
Is it better to learn the Quran online or at the masjid?
What matters most is a teacher who hears the student read and corrects each mistake, every week. The masjid gives community; one-to-one online gives more reading time with the teacher.
Are there free Quran classes near me?
Many masjids run free or low-cost classes, especially for adults and new Muslims. Ask the office. Our first online lesson is also free. Online, the remote circles of the Prophet’s Mosque are among the free Quran classes you can join from home.
What age should a child start Quran classes?
Around four or five, with short lessons of about 30 minutes. Read what age to start the Quran for the details by age.
Can I find a female Quran teacher near me?
Ask your masjid whether sisters teach there. Online, female teachers are available for every subject at the same price; see female Quran teacher.
